In true Watford fashion, we are bouncing back and are going to come out of the pandemic stronger than ever. Unemployment rates have dropped every month since the start of the year, meaning fewer people are having to rely on financial support to stay afloat. The council have been working really hard throughout the pandemic to ensure that local people and businesses have all the tools and support they need to protect their livelihoods. In the town we are also seeing a steady stream of businesses looking to move to Watford and take advantage of the fantastic location, great connectivity and enterprising residents. We continue to work with partners such as the Watford BID to ensure that our shops are occupied and there is something for everyone who visits our town. In July and August alone we saw 9 new businesses opening in the town centre. We all know that town centres must adapt and it’s a real sign of the strength of our local economy that so many new businesses are opening here.
There are lots of exciting new businesses popping up, as well as older ones getting back on their feet. I have recently had the pleasure of visiting a number of the new premises in Watford and experiencing the variety that is on offer, including Escape Hunt, Refillabell and Heavenly Desserts, to name a few. I also attended the first of our new ‘Market Lates’ events at Watford Market which saw around 600 people enjoying the best food, drink and entertainment our market has to offer. There will be more of these coming up soon, so keep your eyes peeled on the Watford Market social media and website for details. It has been great to see people returning to town and the positivity this brings. There’s a real desire to support our local high streets. I look forward to seeing more of you out and about and enjoying all that Watford has to offer over the coming months.
